Quadrent named a finalist at the 2023 New Zealand CIO Awards

Quadrent have been named as a finalist in the Sustainability through Technology category at the 2023 New Zealand CIO Awards, for our Quadrent Green Lease circular leasing solution designed to solve two significant environmental and social problems in New Zealand.

  1. 1 in 7 young New Zealanders (120,000) do not have access to a learning device at home and will struggle to get the opportunity to fully participate in a digitally included education.
  2. Only 4% of 100,000 tonnes of e-waste generated annually is properly recycled, with most ending up in our landfills. This makes New Zealand the worst in the OECD for recycling e-waste and one of the largest per capita producers of e-waste globally at 21 kgs per person.

The Quadrent Green Lease is a world first technology lease. It is designed to repurpose and donate quality ex-lease devices (laptops, tablets and screens) from our corporate customers to our children that need them most and reduce corporate produced e-waste into landfills, with the process assured by PwC for governance purposes.

Unlike carbon offset arrangements, Quadrent Green Lease promotes measurable behavioural change to create tangible environmental and social change, rather than simply paying our way out of our problems.

Gary Nalder, New Zealand General Manager of Quadrent, commented on the shortlisting, “It is exciting to be nominated as a finalist and is a testament to the hard work of our entire team. The genesis of the Quadrent Green Lease began internally when we started examining how we could change our business to be more sustainable. We uncovered that by using circularity concepts, collaborating with our network of partners and sustainable finance providers, we could augment our standard ICT leasing offering to create a new product that has significant positive environmental and social impact for New Zealand.”

Good luck to our fellow finalists One New Zealand and Christchurch City Council, it’s great to see so many wonderfully innovative solutions coming to the market, together we can all make a real difference.
